PORTER OF THE YEAR
Out of all, this is the most prestigious award in portering. Having been won by some truly inspirational porters over the years, the award celebrates the best qualities of portering and the dedicated staff who embody them. This could be someone goes the extra mile and achieves great things each and every day. Maybe they have risen to the challenge during troubling circumstances? Are they a charity champion? A helpful hero? A go-getter? Or maybe they have suffered loss and battled on through?
DENNIS SOUTHERN
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT
This award is presented in honor of its first winner, Dennis Southern, a porter who showed commitment, dedication, passion and care through his career, and had a positive impact on every individual that met him. This award recognises a staff member who is more than just a porter. It is recognition of a lifetime commitment, a celebration of a longstanding member of the team and a role model for all.
PORTERING TEAM OF THE YEAR
This award celebrates a portering team that has consistently made a positive impact on its Trust. Beyond the well-known task of moving patients, portering teams carry out numerous essential duties that support healthcare. They deliver critical items like blood, medications, and pillowcases, manage notes, provide directions, transport gases, and respond to emergencie. This is for a team that goes above and beyond and shows the spirit that embodies that of true teamwork - everyone puts their all in, together.
CONTRIBUTION TO PATIENT EXPERIENCE
This award is to recognise an individual who goes the extra mile for a patient/visitor or enhances the patient journey. Whether it’s making a patient smile, easing their anxiety, or improving the efficiency of patient flow, this porter stands out for their extraordinary efforts, going above and beyond their expected duties. Their acts of kindness and dedication, whether through small gestures or unique talents, significantly enhance the patient experience and contribute to a positive hospital environment.
LEADERSHIP OF THE YEAR
This award is for outstanding leadership and recognises a manager/supervisor that guides their teams with understanding, patience, dedication and positive leadership. They inspire and elevate others, making coming to work a real joy for their staff. Part of the team, not aside from the team, they are fair, show compassion, and make key decisions when needed.
NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR
This award celebrates a porter who has truly ‘hit the ground running’. From their first day on the hospital floor, they have brought a refreshing energy and an exceptional work ethic. This award aims to shine a light on someone who has taken to the role of porter and can be seen as a benchmark for success to encourage others to follow suit - helping to show portering as a possible, and positive, career option.
INTERNATIONAL PORTER OF THE YEAR
This award celebrates the invaluable contributions of porters worldwide. While their roles may vary, their unwavering commitment to aiding patients and healthcare professionals is universal. This award honours their dedication, compassion, and exceptional service, highlighting their vital role in maintaining the smooth operation of the global healthcare community.
